The Food Standards Agency has issued a compilation of cannabidiol items that it has been working on authorizing for sale here in the United Kingdom. No food item with CBD has been authorized here. Are Cannabidiol Food Items Safe? Here Is What The Agency Said About It
Notwithstanding the recent move, the Chief Executive Officer of the FSA, Emily Miles, is concerned regarding cannabidiol as there are not enough studies on CBD in food.
The Food Standards Agency stressed that it does not endorse CBD items and that because an item is on its CBD list, does not mean that it will get authorized. Miles stated that while the FSA is yet to show enough evidence that cannabidiol is not safe, there is not enough proof to substantiate its safety either.
She added that as the cannabidiol market grows fast, the agency has been looking to put the cannabidiol sector into compliance. Miles described the FSA CBD update as another step in its approach to ensuring that cannabidiol items are safe.
The agency has created the list to aid retailers and local authorities in prioritizing the removal of the products from sale. When an item does not belong to the FSA list, it has to be eliminated from the shelves as it is still not associated with a credible use to the agency for market authorization.
However, being part of the compilation means that not only is the application credible but that the agency is also expecting to get, or has, enough evidence from that applicant to judge CBD safety.
Miles emphasized that the agency does not endorse any item on this list and that being on it does not guarantee that it will become authorized as it has not been completely examined for safety.
How Many Items Are Part Of The List?
There are up to 3,536 CBD items on it, but most of those await evidence. The products include an array of CBD gummies, sprays and tinctures. The agency is asking for the help of local retailers and authorities in bringing the cannabidiol sector into compliance with the removal of items not on this list. The list of cannabidiol items applies to only England and Wales.
